Paolini: Best days of my life

We're into the trophy presentations and the Italian is the first to speak.

Jasmine Paolini gets a warm reception from the Chatrier crowd who have loved watching her brand of tennis over the last two weeks. The Italian will break into the top 10 on Monday at No.7 in the world.

“I’ve been here 10 or 15 days and they’ve been the best days of my life,” Paolini tells a packed Chatrier.

“I’m really proud of myself. Merci beaucoup – you were cheering for me and that was really unbelievable.”

16:25

The celebrations can begin...

16:21

SWIATEK IS ROLAND-GARROS CHAMPION 🏆

Iga Swiatek claims her fourth Roland-Garros singles title and her third in three years with a dominant 6-2, 6-1 victory over Italy’s Jasmine Paolini.

It is the Polish world No.1’s fifth Grand Slam trophy overall and she maintains her 100 percent record in major finals having now won the first five of her career at the age of 23.

Swiatek extends her Roland-Garros win streak to 21 matches.

16:00

Swiatek leads 6-2, 3-0

The world No.1 is starting to put on a clay-court masterclass and she’s hardly put a foot wrong since going down that early break in the first set. Swiatek picks up where she left off at the end of the opener to hold, break and hold again for a three-game cushion. She’s closing in on a fourth title…

15:50

Trophy alert 🏆

In the perfect draw, the No.1 seeds beat the No.2 seeds in the boys’ doubles final.

The Norwegian/Austrian pairing of Nicolai Budkov Kjaer and Joel Schwaerzler beat Italy’s Federicao Cin and Rei Sakamoto of Japan 6-4, 7-6(3) to take the title.

15:45

First set Swiatek 6-2

From 1-2 and down a break, Iga Swiatek blazes through five games in a row to take the first set 6-2 after 34 minutes. The Polish world No.1 is one set away from the Paris ‘three-peat’.

15:43

Swiatek leads 5-2 first set

Swiatek breaks again as her quality starts to show on Chatrier. Going down 2-1 seems to have shocked the Pole into action and she’s starting to dominate now as she holds to win a fourth successive game to move into a 5-2 lead. This match is being played at an incredibly fast pace. It’s like they were both plugged into the mains before walking onto court.

15:34

Swiatek leads 3-2 first set

Paolini's advantage doesn't last long as Swiatek takes her tennis up a notch to break straight back then race through a service game to edge ahead. It's been more competitive than many predicted so far. Big game coming up for the Italian...

15:27

Paolini breaks for 2-1 first set

Iga looks full of energy as the match gets under way and holds to 30 for a 1-0 lead. A first service game in a big final is always a good indicator of how a player is feeling and it was an eventful hold for Paolini in the second game. The Italian was up 40-0, then had to save break point but finally holds for 1-1 when a Swiatek groundstroke drops just long.

Swiatek then plays a surprisingly loose game to drop serve to 15 and Paolini has her nose in front.

15:19

Trophy alert 🏆

USA lefty Kaylan Bigun came into this final on an 11-match winning streak and made it 12 with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory over Poland’s Tomasz Berkieta in the boys’ singles final.

Eighteen-year-old Bigun is the third American player to win a Roland-Garros boys’ singles title after Bjorn Fratangelo in 2011 and Tommy Paul in 2015.

Women’s final: Swiatek vs Paolini

The players are out on to Court Philippe-Chatrier, a sell-out crowd is ready and the sun is shining. It’s a third meeting between Iga Swiatek and Jasmine Paolini, but this one is big.

Swiatek takes a 2-0 head-to-head lead into the women’s final looking for her fifth major at the age of 23, a fourth title in Paris, her third in a row and hoping to make it 21 successive wins at the clay court major. The last time she lost here was to Maria Sakkari in the quarter-finals in 2021.

Paolini is the 12th seed playing her first major final and, whatever happens, the 28-year-old is already guaranteed a debut inside the world’s top 10. She’ll also be back tomorrow to play in the doubles final with Sara Errani.

Six-time Grand Slam singles champion Sam Schroder was denied another title as Guy Sasson took a 6-2, 3-6, 7-6(10-7) victory in the quad singles final in a match that kept the fans on Court 13 guessing.

Schroder has made the final at Roland-Garros for the last three years, but it is the one Grand Slam that eludes him.

It was a rematch of the pair’s Australian Open final in January. Sasson lost out on that occasion and today wins his first Grand Slam singles title.

We’ve got a big upset brewing on Chatrier where world No.1 Diede de Groot – going for her 14th successive Grand Slam singles title – has lost the first set against China’s Zhenzhen Zhu 6-4 in the women's wheelchair singles final.

In the girls’ final Tereza Valentova is up in the battle of the Czechs against Laura Samson. She’s ahead by a set and 3-2.

Gustavo Fernandez is in a tight first set of the men’s wheelchair final on Court 14 against Japan’s Tokito Oda. It’s 5-5 over there after 48 minutes.

And Israel’s Guy Sasson is a set up on Dutchman Sam Schroder in the Quad singles final on Court 13.

Garbin: You can't click and order wins

As part of your build-up to the women’s final at 3pm why not catch up on some of the in-depth analysis from our team ahead of today’s showpiece.

Alix Ramsay previews the title decider between Iga Swiatek and surprise finalist Jasmine Paolini.

Chris Oddo drills down into some of Iga’s incredible numbers to illustrate how significant another Paris title would be for the Polish star.

Alex Sharp chatted to Paolini’s doubles partner Sara Errani about why the 28-year-old is having so much success here, and what makes them work as a pair. They’ll be on Court Philippe-Chatrier on Sunday to go for the women’s doubles trophy.

And Alex also met the Italy Billie Jean King Cup captain Tathiana Garbin to discover just why the nation is having so much success - across men’s, women’s, doubles and junior draws.

“I tell [the players] this isn't Amazon,” Garbin says, “you can't click and order wins and Grand Slams. You have to push every single day.”
