Roland-Garros has championed social and environmental responsibility for many years. This year, once again, the tournament is celebrating World Environment Day (5 June 2024) and highlighting sustainable food practices.

Committed to sustainable food

Roland-Garros is aware of the impact of food on people’s lives and has taken significant steps to promote sustainable food throughout the tournament. Since 2016, in partnership with Yann Arthus-Bertrand’s GoodPlanet foundation, a charter has been adopted to clearly define the measures to minimise our environmental footprint and maximise our positive social impact.

Here are the key principles of this sustainable food charter:

- Responsible sourcing: 80% of the food served at Roland-Garros is local and seasonal (all the vegetables available to the public are in season, thus supporting local producers and reducing transport emissions), and 30% is certified and labelled, guaranteeing high-quality, environmentally friendly products.

- Combatting food waste by reducing servings and redistributing the surplus

- More plant-based options: 50% of the food served this year is vegetarian.

- Raising awareness and educating people

- Social inclusion and employment: the tournament is committed to helping people (re)enter the workplace. 10% of staff employed by the tournament’s caterers must be part of a back-to-work scheme.

Let’s celebrate sustainable food at Roland-Garros on 5 June!

On Wednesday 5 June, all of the food served in the stadium complex will be vegetarian. The menus, designed especially for the occasion, will provide the same quality of service as throughout the tournament. Vegetarian hotdogs (at Les Fleuristes), vegetarian brioche buns and vegan salads (at Le Roland-Garros bar), vegetarian loaded baguettes (at L’Annexe) and vegan pasta salads/veggie club sandwiches or wraps/veggie burgers (at various food stalls and grocery shops around the grounds) will be available throughout the day.

There will also be a fund-raising drive for Le Chaînon Manquant (in which everyone can take part by donating at the checkouts), as well as fun activities to promote sustainable food consumption. So, join us on Wednesday 5 June to celebrate World Environment Day!
