Roland-Garros Broadcasting rights for France awarded to France Televisions and Amazon

Quels droits TV pour Roland-Garros ?FFT / Cécric Lecocq

Paris, 25th July 2019

Roland-Garros' broadcasting rights for France, for years 2021, 2022 and 2023, were awarded to France Televisions for Package 1, which includes all Tournament matches except those played on the Simonne-Mathieu court and night sessions; and to Amazon for Package 2, which includes matches played on the Simonne-Mathieu court and night sessions on the Philippe-Chatrier court. Semi-finals and finals will be co-broadcast.*

The French Tennis Federation (FFT) is delighted that broadcasting rights have increased in value and Tournament exposure has improved. The average annual revenue collected for the period 2021-2023 will increase by more than 25% compared to the average over last three years. As a reminder, Roland-Garros’ revenues allow the French Tennis Federation (FFT) to finance the promotion and development of tennis throughout France.

The French Tennis Federation (FFT) is enthusiastic about the continuation of their historic partnership with the France Televisions Group, as it will promote unencrypted television broadcasting even more than in previous years. Indeed, this public service TV group will broadcast Package 1 matches starting at 11:00am on channels France 5 or France 4 then will continue on channel France 2 starting at 2:00pm.

The French Tennis Federation (FFT) conceived this Invitation to Tender in an innovative way in order to adapt Roland-Garros’ broadcasting methods to the changes in media consumption and thus reach a new audience. The FFT is therefore delighted at the award of Package 2 to Amazon. This new partner is already involved in tennis broadcasting rights after acquiring rights in Great Britain (US Open, Masters 1000 / ATP 500, and WTA circuit). The "Prime video" platform will be widely accessible by tennis fans at a moderate price.

In addition, the French Tennis Federation will produce tournament's images based on quality requirements that meet the expectations of the two broadcasters for the French market, as well as those of the 151 international broadcasters.

Finally, the French Tennis Federation would like to thank its historical partner Eurosport for having contributed its broadcasting expertise at Roland-Garros in France over the past 27 years, and for continuing this broadcast with talent in Europe.
