Sloane Stephens advanced to the third round at Roland-Garros for the seventh time with victory over Sara Sorribes Tormo on Wednesday.

The No.7 seed, a finalist last year in Paris, led the Spaniard 6-1, 3-0 before wrapping up a 6-1, 7-6(3) victory in the first match of the day on Court Philippe-Chatrier.

Polona Hercog next awaits Stephens after the Slovene stopped Jennifer Brady in three tight sets.

Joining Stephens and Hercog in the last 32 is 2016 champion Garbine Muguruza, who dominated Swede Johanna Larsson in winning 6-4, 6-1.

Muguruza, who improves her win-loss record at Roland-Garros to 26-5, next faces ninth seed Elina Svitolina in a blockbuster third-round encounter.

Svitolina earlier on Wednesday progressed without hitting a ball; her opponent Kateryna Kozlova withdrew citing a viral illness.
