Bolelli, a lucky loser, had been given the less-than-fortunate experience of facing the greatest clay courter of them all in his own realm and though the world No.129 threw everything he had at Nadal over an hour-and-three quarters, persistent rain eventually forced a suspension with the Italian still battling for all he was worth and the champ finding that the start of his quest for title number 11 - La Undécima - was not quite as straightforward as he had hoped.
