Simona Halep was all smiles as she breezed through to the quarter-finals. Her opponent, Elise Mertens, was seeded 16th and had enjoyed an impressive clay-court lead in to Paris, yet Halep, the world No.1 demolished the Belgian for the loss of just three games in 59 minutes.
