The quietly resurgent Angelique Kerber took a set off Halep, and looked dangerous. Having held firm and seized the win to take her into the semifinals, the Romanian turned to coach Darren Cahill and pointed to her head. What did the gesture signify? “The win was about the mental [strength]. And also the physical, for sure, but mentally I was strong. After losing that set, when I came back it was a little bit tough, but I stayed there. I stayed focused. I never gave up. That's why I won today. My head won it.”
