Round 7: Bouttier vs Monzon, 29 September 1973

The court central was the venue for this world middleweight title rematch between Bouttier and Argentina’s Carlos Monzon. With famous French actor Alain Delon taking on the role of promoter, it was a fight that captured the imagination of the media and the fans. The Frenchman came close to avenging his earlier defeat to Monzon only to fade in the last three rounds.

Roland-Garros hosted an eighth and less well-documented boxing bill on 27 May 1974, when the French fighters Jean-Claude Bouttier and Roger Menetrey took on British opponents.
