Rafael Nadal through the lens of Roland-Garros photographers
Amélie Laurin : "It's not easy to choose just one photo of Rafa because his demeanour makes him sophotogenic. I particularly like this one from the 2020 edition. It was in October, and it was one of the rare moments of beautiful light. It’s the semi-final on Philippe-Chatrier, Rafa has just served, and you can see the raw power in his facial expression, as well as the fibres suspended in the air from the ball he’s just hit. While he’s always worn different coloured outfits, I find this blue contrasts perfectly with the clay. All these elements make this photo a success in my opinion. Spectators and photographers alike are all sad we won’t see him play another tournament. What fantastic emotions he stirred in us!"
