Against the odds! After knocking out Carlos Alcaraz and then Taylor Fritz, 2023 Monte-Carlo champion Andrey Rublev found reserves of strength he didn’t know he had to win only his second Masters 1000 title with victory in Madrid. Despite suffering flu-like symptoms and a toe injury, stamina and willpower saw him through a fierce battle with Félix Auger-Aliassime (4-6, 7-5, 7-5 in 2 hours 48 minutes).
