In her 63rd appearance in a Grand Slam tournament, Alizé Cornet put in an outstanding performance, reaching the quarter-finals of a Major for the first time. Having defeated Garbiñe Muguruza (No.3), Tamara Zidansek (No.29) then Simona Halep (No.14), the Frenchwoman’s winning run was finally halted by future runner-up Danielle Collins (No.27).
