Look back at 2022: the WTA season in pictures

Full of surprises, this year’s tournament saw the crowning of a new Grand Slam champion in the shape of Elena Rybakina. Free from any pressure or real ambitions at the beginning of the tournament, the Kazakh – the youngest woman to win Wimbledon since Petra Kvitova in 2011 – had a remarkable run, defeating Bianca Andreescu, Ajla Tomljanovic, Simona Halep and Ons Jabeur on her way to the title. It was a well-deserved triumph, and the new champion had trouble realising the extent of her achievement at the end of the final. “I still can’t believe it. Maybe in one or two days, I’ll sit down and realise what I’ve achieved. But for now, I’m really proud of myself.”
